Out and About :: Wild Willow Farm

The Wild Willow Farm is one of those gems of a spot that few even know about here in San Diego – especially living in North County. It lies in the lovely Tijuana River Valley, about 40 minutes South from where we live. Really, it is a stones throw from the border. This past weekend they hosted a 5k run, chili cook-off and brew tasting all to raise money for the farm to purchase a new tractor. The morning began with house-made lattes, complete with milk fresh from the goats, and hand silk-screened shirts for those of us that brought a plain one along.

The 5k weaved its way in and around the farm, and when we were done we sampled chili from various San Diego eateries (all vegetarian fare) in super-cute, handmade ceramic bowls. Then we sipped on tasty Stone Brewery brews, while listening to a lovely blue-grass band. The kids tromped about the farm, checking for eggs, saying hello to goats, looking for pumpkins and climbing to the top of a dirt (or possibly manure) pile. photo (1) photo 10 photo 9 photo 5 photo 6 photo 7

This Harvest Festival happening across the street is a good place to start! And, Wild Willow Farm offers a slew of community events, and even this Sustainable Farming course looks wonderful. Enjoy!
